Taking advantage of the ICD-10 deadline delay

Given the recent news that the ICD-10 implementation deadline has been pushed back by one year, the question then becomes how to take advantage of this extra delay?

Carl Natale from ICD10Watch.com reports that during the American Health Information Management Association’s (AHIMA) 2012 ICD-10 Summit, Keith Olenik, ICD-10 project manager at Cook County Health and Hospitals System in Illinois proposed the use of clinical documentation improvement (CDI) and computer assisted computing (CAC) to counter the expected drop in medical coder productivity after the switch. The delay allows more time for healthcare information technology (HIT) departments to take on such projects.
